This is an annoying set that takes advantage of a ParaFusion combination to give Chinchou a much more reliable way to do damage to foes. With confusion and paralysis, the foe only has a 37.5% chance to even hit Chinchou. With Chinchou behind a Substitute, even being hit by that 37.5% chance means it still won't be KOed, and going with its already passable UU NFE defenses, means Chinchou will not be taking many hits if the foe isn't a Ground-type, or has Own Tempo (or is faster and uses Substitute itself). The key here is to use Chinchou against foes you're sure won't pack Substitute, as it effectively cripples Chinchou's strategy to simply using Surf. Surf in itself proves to be Chinchou's best attacking option. While this does mean Chinchou is walled by common UU Pokemon such as Croagunk, Mantyke and Wartortle, it hits Onix, Rhyhorn, Omanyte, Kabuto and Aron, all Pokemon who are hardly scathed by confusion's damage, and the former two being immune to Thunder Wave. With this set, Surf OHKOs a max Special Defense Onix, as well as OHKOing Rhyhorn when factoring in Stealth Rock damage.

Chinchou's unique typing and immunity to Volt Absorb makes it a very unique and useful candidate for a UU NFE team if used properly. Teams who have a BoltBeam weakness will find Chinchou a huge consideration for their team. Flying-type Pokemon synergize well with Chinchou, being weak to both Ice and Electric attacks, making Doduo, Pidgeotto and Taillow very notable candidates. Mantyke and Wingull work well in attracting Electric- type attacks that Chinchou will happily switch into, although Wingull is more likely to be hit with Ice attacks because of its very low Special Defense.

Chinchou's ParaFusion set works notably well on teams that utilize multiple entry hazards, moreso Spikes and Stealth Rock setters because of Chinchou's Thunder Wave being part of its main strategy. Omanyte works well in this department because of its weakness to Electric attacks, although Pineco is a sturdier option in terms of Special Defense. Cacnea works equally well, being able to switch to Chinchou when faced with Ice or Fire attacks, but doesn't attract Electric attacks as much, and can only be used for Spikes and not Stealth Rock.

Ivysaur, Exeggcute and Gloom really shut Chinchou down, as they don't mind being paralyzed, don't hit themselves very hard in confusion thanks to their high Defense, and take very little damage from Surf. Ivysaur and Gloom can absorb Toxic Spikes, ruining Toxic stall that is sometimes accompanied with Chinchou. Lombre also works remarkably well as a counter, taking almost nothing from Chinchou's Surf, and being able to hit with a STAB Energy Ball, although it doesn't appreciate ParaFusion as much.
